Robust Systems is up to now just one consultant, me, the founder. So all services offered by Robust Systems are based on my experiences in product development which are luckily not too few.

To start with just some words about me: my name is Olaf Brömsen, I'm married, father, house-garden-2car-2cat owner, 48 years old, big fan of Dilbert and other great philosopher; passionate design engineer (especially with the Lego bricks of my little son); very interested in history; ex-basketball player; now cyclist, still skier, …

I studied mechanical engineering at the RWTH Aachen University, specialized in design engineering. Then I worked as a scientific assistant at the Laboratory for Machine Tools and Production Engineering (WZL) of RWTH Aachen University. In that time I had several quite different main topics: FEM calculation of the static and dynamic behavior of machine tools; new methods for early evaluation of manufacturability of parts simultaneously to the design process (kind of DFM); dimensioning of linear drives; component strength calculation.

I wrote my graduate thesis about my work for a new method for fatigue strength calculation of case hardened parts, especially heavy loaded gears. By utilizing an extended flaw model I could get significantly (5 times) better results then by any other at that time existing method.

Lately I worked 13 years in various position of R&D management at the world leading provider and producer of laboratory products and scientific instruments. In the beginning I lead a 10-member mechanical design group and finally in my last role as Global R&D Director I had a team of almost 100 engineers in China, USA, India and Germany and was responsible for the development and maintenance of a huge product portfolio with a total yearly revenue of several 100M$.

From the complexity of the global organization and the size and variety of the product portfolio derived a similar complex and comprehensive set of tasks, about which you can read more in the below listed links:
